Karen Thompson-Jackson, Ph.D, has served as the Executive Director of Temporary Emergency Services since 1990.  She received her Bachelor, Master and Ph.D degrees from the University of Alabama.  She is an adjunct professor at The UA School of Social Work.  She also serves as the administrative assistant at Elizabeth Baptist Church and is Co-Chair of the Stillman College Women’s Council. Karen is a member of the Tuscaloosa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated.

Her background in social work and her emphasis on community services have made her a critical player in meeting the needs of so many of our indigent citizens. She has worked with the UA, Stillman College and Shelton State College to assess the needs of West Alabama and develop programs to address the basic needs of our community. Currently, she is Chair of the West Alabama Homeless Committee, she serves as a board member for Community Services of West Alabama and for Phoenix House.

Karen served as the President of the Junior League of Tuscaloosa having been the first Black President elected in the organization’s 90-year history. Karen was elected to serve as a Member-At-Large for the Association of Junior Leagues Internal known as AJLI. Karen is a past graduate of Leadership Alabama.
